WALLINGFORD — A local company recently installed new flooring on the main stage of the Oakdale Theatre in preparation for a two-week performance of “Wicked” beginning in late November.
The flooring was installed in September by Colonial Flooring America, located on Route 5.
“We were very pleased to hear they chose us for the project as a local business in Wallingford,” said Peter Escobar, president of Colonial Flooring America.
The flooring installed about five years ago had deteriorated from frequent use, said Michael Andrews, Oakdale general manager. Andrews said that although the flooring could have lasted a few more years, the theater wanted to refurbish it for “Wicked.”
“It almost looks like silk,” Andrews said.
The musical will be performed 16 times from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11. It will be the first performance of “Wicked” at the theater.
“It was perfect timing. We’re very excited,” Andrews said. “It’s one of the biggest Broadway plays ever. Who wouldn’t be excited?”
Colonial Flooring America installed new linoleum flooring across the roughly 7,800-square-foot stage, the same flooring material previously on the stage, Escobar said.
Andrews said the theater was “glad to give the business to a local business instead of some corporation.”
