SOUTHINGTON — Cava’s rooftop patio opened Thursday after months of work.
Tony Papahristou, the restaurant manager and son of owner Stavros Papahristou, said the new area provides another 130 seats. The West Street restaurant will mark its ninth year in August.
The patio includes a bar with 20 seats. According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, reservations are not being accepted for the rooftop area. It is open for lunch and dinner.
Tony Papahristou said he found inspiration for the rooftop area at resorts in Greece, Italy and Miami. He hopes the dining experience will be an escape for customers. It’s been in the planning stages for years.
It’s a large and complex expansion that required adding supports to the roof and installing blowers beneath the decking that will warm the open-topped area on cool nights.
The rooftop area has several rooms, including a VIP area with a view over West Street, the mountain beyond and the evening sunset.
