Multiple cars catch fire at Old Turnpike Road salvage yard in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — Three cars caught fire at Chuck & Eddies Used Auto Parts Tuesday, causing heavy black smoke visible around town.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to 450 Old Turnpike Road about 2:30 p.m. for a report of a car on fire. The fire spread to two additional cars before it was extinguished by 3:30 p.m, Battalion Chief Eric Heath said.

Firefighters used foam due to flammable liquids inside the cars, Deputy Chief Scott DiBattista said.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was working with the Southington Fire Department “to mitigate environmental concerns,” authorities said. The town fire marshal responded to the scene.
