Local college student summits Mt. Kilimanjaro

Berlin High School alumnus Steve Bordonaro reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa – a 19,341 foot climb – on May 28.

Bordonaro made the 4-day trek with 12 other University of Connecticut students. The trip, organized by Choose a Challenge, allowed the students to raise money for Make a Wish CT and subsidize a portion of the trip expenses. Overall, the UConn group raised more than $60,000 for Make a Wish.

Bordonaro said, “Summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, but one of the most rewarding.”
