Vets commission gives thanks to volunteer firefighters

Last month, the Berlin Veterans Commission made a presentation of a plaque to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of the department’s support for local veterans.

Inscribed on the plaque is: “With Special Thanks for Recognizing, Supporting, and Honoring Our Berlin Veterans Each Year During the Holiday Season by Donating $10,000 in Gift Cards to Be Distributed to Veterans in Need. We Present this Plaque to The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, Your Dedication to Making the Lives of Our Veterans Better Will Never Be Forgotten.”

The BVFD raises the funds through various efforts, including the Berlin Fair “Freedom Fry” booth, and comedy and car shows.

The money donated by the firefighters stays in town, going to local veterans in need. Recipients are chosen by the Veterans Commission. Over the past year, 21 Berlin veterans and their families recieved helped.

The Veterans Commission stated in a press release, “It is an unbelievable experience to be able to present these cards to our veterans and to let them know that their service to our country, along with their sacrifices, will never be forgotten.”
