Veteran insurance agent sets up shop in Berlin

After spending many years working for insurance giant Allstate, Sam Kader felt he knew the industry well enough to go it alone. So he did.

Kader Insurance Agency, located at 859 Mill St., held its official grand opening on Sept. 16. The company aims to find clients the best deals on various forms of insurance coverage: auto, property, boat, pet; the list goes on.

Kader Insurance Agency actually opened back in March of 2021, but its proprietor wanted to get the business up and running before holding any type of celebration.

Mr. Kader said he moved on from Allstate in order to present insurance shoppers with more options.

“When you only work at one insurance agency, and your clients aren’t happy, you are not able to offer them other companies,” said Kader, who has spent some 16 years in the insurance business.

Kader attended the University of Texas, where he studied engineering. After college, he moved to Connecticut and worked in architectural design. But when the company he was employed by was sold, Kader said he "decided to pursue other careers.”

In the late 80s, Kader bought the 7-Eleven on New Britain Road, near the Berlin-New Britain border. After selling the store, which he had run with his brother, Kader’s long career in insurance was set in motion.

Currently, Kader Insurance Agency consists of its namesake and one part-time employee, but Mr. Kader is looking to expand his team.

“We’re excited about Sam Kader opening a business in Berlin,” Economic Development Director Chris Edge said. “From retail to service, his expertise is wonderful to have in town.”
