The Board of Education is considering moving graduation from a Sunday afternoon to a Friday night, for the 2021 graduation (current junior class) and beyond. Families with Berlin High School students in ninth, 10th and 11th grade recently received a survey regarding the 2021 graduation through a school messenger email with a link for an electronic survey.
Survey recipients will have the option to check one of the following boxes, and to leave comments: Yes, I support moving graduation to Friday evening. No, I do not support moving graduation to Friday evening.
The Board of Education conducted a survey last year concerning our high school graduation. The survey showed 74 percent of the respondents supporting the change to Friday evening. If changed the ceremony would be held at Central Connecticut State University, in Welte Auditorium, and the all-night graduation party would be held that evening.
Based on the recent changes to Connecticut legislation, once the graduation date is set it will not be impacted by snow days even if it means that seniors would not have completed 180 days of school.
The Board of Education values the input of all Berlin citizens.
You are invited to attend our next meeting, Monday, Feb. 24, 6 p.m., at the Board of Education.
