Unique Eagle Scout project benefits church

Berlin High School junior Mitchell R. Rivers was awarded his Eagle Scout Badge at a special ceremony held recently at Kensington Congregational Church. Rivers’ Eagle Scout project consisted of planting four large Bartlett pear trees at the church, near the new addition.

Rivers planned the project, raised the funds to purchase the trees and arranged to have them delivered to the site. Also, he hand-dug the holes with the help of fellow scouts.

Rivers is a member of Troop 44, which is led by Anthony deRito.

Rivers is a high honors student and a member of the BHS swim team. Also, he is a Cadet Senior Master Sergeant in the Silver City Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

The newly-minted Eagle Scout is the son of Frank Rivers and Lisa (Welz) Rivers.
