The Berlin Veterans Commission would like to thank the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and the Berlin Lions Club for their donations this year of $10,000 and $12,000, respectively, in $100 gift cards for Berlin veterans and veteran widows in need.
This is the eighth year that the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department has donated gift cards. The department holds four fundraisers annually, and the profits raised at these events are used to purchase the cards.
The funds donated by the Berlin Lions Club come from its annual luminary display. For the past three years, the Lions have sold luminaries and set them up for Veterans Day all around Veterans Memorial Park. The Lions said it “was truly a community effort that made this event an overwhelming success and will provide needed support to our local veterans.”
Without their hard work in raising money, we would not be able to give this wonderful tribute to the Berlin veterans and veteran widows in need during the holiday season.
It is an unbelievable experience to be able to present these cards to our veterans and to let them know that their service to our country, along with their sacrifices, will never be forgotten.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to these two organizations and all the people and businesses that support them.
