BHS Hall of Fame: Kyle Zarotney

The Berlin High School Hall of Fame Class of 2019 is: Edward Magruda (Class of 1937), Kenneth Burt (Class of 1957), Sean Garrison (Class of 1990), Joy Cooper (Class of 1992), Bill Robinson (Class of 1999), Kyle Zarotney (Class of 2006), and the 2006 CIAC Division III state championship boys basketball team.

During his freshman year, Zarotney was a member of the JV and varsity basketball and baseball teams. During his sophomore year, in basketball, he was selected to the All-Northwest Conference team and All-Tournament team and received the Berlin Basketball Defense Award. During his junior year, he was a key member of the Class L state championship baseball team and was selected All-Northwest Conference and received CHSCA honorable mention All-State recognition.

As an integral part of the basketball team that year, he received the Coaches Award and the William A. Gibney Basketball Award.

During his senior year, Zarotney was All-Academic Northwest Conference and captain of both the baseball and basketball teams. He was a Second Team All-State basketball selection and a preseason McDonald’s All-American nominee. The BHS basketball team won the Division III state championship that year, a first for the BHS boys basketball program.

Zarotney was selected to the CHSCA Senior All-Star basketball roster and the CHSCA All-Star baseball roster.

Zarotney went on to play baseball at Central Connecticut State University, where he was selected to the All-Tournament team as a sophomore and senior. CCSU won he 2010 NEC baseball championship.

Between his junior and senior year, Zarotney spent the summer playing in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League for the Sag Harbor Whalers and was selected to play in the 2009 ACBL All-Star game.

Zarotney married his wife, Jennifer, in 2015. The couple has a 2-year old daughter, Quinn, and are expecting their second child in May.
