The Upbeat Program has been a vital part of the Berlin community since its inception 35 years ago.
The current director, Sheel Patel, has made it her goal to revitalize the program among Berlin citizens, placing an emphasis on Upbeat’s roots of integrity, leadership and service.
On Thursday, May 25, Upbeat hosted its annual picnic at the Berlin Lions Fairgrounds. As a program that serves the entire community, the overall goal and purpose of the picnic is to give everyone the opportunity to come together in a safe and family-friendly environment.
A record-breaking crowd attended the picnic last month, and 3,000 hot dogs were served.
Vocal and instrumental groups from all five Berlin schools were part of the picnic performances this year.
In addition to our music groups, the 2023 picnic included performances from Dance Step and Dance Legacy, and a martial arts demonstration from Yousef Tae Kwon Do.
As usual, the Upbeat picnic received immense support from local businesses and organizations. This year, more than 20 groups were present, promoting themselves to our community in exchange for a donation or raffle prize.
Upbeat is run entirely on donations. The program does not receive any funding from the Board of Education. Without the Berlin community constantly showing their support to the program, it would not be what it is today.
