Local maintains Coast Guard commander post



Berlin resident David Thiede was elected for a second term as the Commander of Division 25 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in New London.

Thiede is in charge of five area Flotillas encompassing more than 175 members. The area of responsibility for Division 25 is from the Connecticut River, east to Rhode Island, and from the Massachusetts border to Long Island Sound, including Orient Point, N.Y. Coast Guard Auxiliary members promote boating safety, offer public education courses, conduct vessel safety checks and augment the mission of active-duty personnel at Station New London.
