Garden club earns top award

Kensington Garden Club members recently attended the 90th Federated Garden Club of CT Awards Meeting and Luncheon at the Aqua Turf.

Twelve members were in attendance to represent the club, which was awarded the Lucille Schavoir Award for its outstanding work at Volunteer Park, where club members planned, designed and planted a pollinator garden during the past calendar year. The award is considered the highest award presented to a garden club.

The Kensington Garden Club was able to accomplish this work in partnership with the town, donations from Sunny Border Nurseries and the help of six Berlin High School Upbeat members.

At the Aqua Turf gathering, the Kensington Garden Club was also recognized for its yearbook and newsletter efforts.

In addition to the club awards, three members – Barbara Schweitzer, Bonnie McNair and Mary Ann Massirio – were recognized with an Individual Achievement Award for their planting and maintaining of garden beds in patriotic colors at the Worthington Ridge Soldiers Memorial.
