Local scouts complete 64-mile river journey

Boy Scout Troop 24 of Berlin, chartered by the South Kensington Fire Department, set out on a high adventure, 64-mile whitewater canoe/kayak trip down the Upper James River in Virginia this past July.

The trip consisted of 57 miles of class 1 and 2 rapids in canoes and 7 miles of class 1, 2 and 3 rapids in kayaks.

The troop also performed a service project – cleaning the river banks of debris and tires.

The scouts earned the 50 miler award and whitewater merit badges.
