During the month of August the Berlin police teamed up with the Connecticut Department of Transportation during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Distracted Driving Awareness month. Berlin officers conducted spot-checks in August that were designed to identify distracted drivers as part of the U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign.
A total of 181 motorists were cited for violating the law that governs the use of mobile electronic devices. The goal of the campaign and enforcement effort was to educate motorists and reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and injuries that involve distracted drivers. The Berlin police and the Connecticut Department of Transportation urge you to put your phone down when you get behind the wheel. If you need to text, pull over and park your vehicle in a safe place first.
