Lions come through for local veterans

On Tuesday night, Dec. 15, the Berlin Lions Club made a gift card presentation to the Berlin Veterans Commission. Ken Scheer, Dan Daigle, Gary Schmidt, Greg Dehm, Ron Bosco, Gary Bienkowski, Paul Kristopik, Irene Hillstrand and Howie Larson, representing the Berlin Lions, presented the commission with a donation of $3,300 in $100 gift cards.

The gift cards given by the Lions stay in town. Recipients are chosen by the veterans commission, which learn about veterans in need, often from others, because the person in trouble is too proud to ask for help.

It is an unbelievable experience to be able to present these cards to our veterans and to let them know that their service to our country, along with their sacrifices, will never be forgotten.

Also, in November, the Berlin Lions Club honored our veterans with a new annual fundraiser, “Berlin Luminaries for Veterans.” The Lions Club sold luminaries which were displayed at Veterans Memorial Park.
