On Saturday, Sept. 5, the Berlin Lions Club participated in the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. Assisted by local Boy Scouts and members of the Berlin High School Upbeat program, the goal for the day was to distribute more than 1,500 boxes of produce – each weighing approximately 20 pounds.
The first hour of the event, held at the Berlin Lions Fairgrounds, was for shelters and food banks, while the remainder of the day was open to the general public. Each family left with at least one box.
Farmers to Families purchases and distributes produce, dairy and meat products that would normally have been bought by restaurants, hotels and other food service businesses, but weren’t, due to COVID-19.
