I am running for re-election to the Berlin Board of Education. I have had the privilege of serving on our board for the past four years. I am currently BOE secretary, CREC Council member and chair of our Community Engagement Committee.
I have been actively involved in our school system for the past 18 years. Along with volunteering for many after-school events and activities, I have been a PTO president for the past eight-plus years and am a longtime member of the Parent Advisory Committee.
Before becoming a Board of Education member, I was a substitute paraprofessional in Berlin schools.
I am an office manager at our family’s local business – PMG Insurance & Financial Services. We have three boys; one has already been through our school system, one is at Berlin High and the other at McGee. To say I have a vested interest in our students is an understatement!
I believe it is important for all our students to reach their individual potential. Our high school offers many advance classes to prepare students for their secondary education, but we need to make sure we have alternative options for our students that want to pursue a different avenue, such as a trade.
The Berlin Advisory Board to the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce, along with some local manufacturers and businesses, has just begun to work with our Board of Education, administration and school counselors in hopes that we can offer internship job opportunities. I want to work to ensure that these partnerships and programs continue to develop so that all our students have a better understanding of their career options.
It is very important as an elected official to a non-partisan board to always hear the concerns of the community and investigate to ensure we are doing what is best for our students. Even with diverse opinions and thoughts, in the end, I will always put what is best for our children first. And l will continue to bring transparency to our whole community through social media and in-person interactions.
This past year our BOE worked with the superintendent and administration to ensure we had a fiscally-responsible budget. I would like to continue this work while making sure all our student needs are met.
It takes a village to raise our children – family, friends, teachers, and you. Your vote will make a difference in our students’ lives.
Vote “Tracy Sisti.” One town, one family … 100 percent Berlin!
