Berlin resident helps apprehend fleeing suspect

Last month, Berlin police received a helping hand from an average citizen who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. According to a Berlin PD social media post, here’s how the harrowing situation played out:

“On May 5, 2022, Berlin Police were attempting to apprehend two suspects that had [shoplifted] from a nearby business when the suspects began to fight with police. One of the suspects broke free and ran across Berlin Turnpike into rush hour traffic being pursued by K9 Bane. The suspect suffered a dog bite but continued fighting with Bane's handler, Officer Lagueux.”

It was then that a local man, a former police commissioner, swooped in.

The post continues: “Berlin resident, Tony Letizio, just happened to be driving by and stopped to help. Mr. Letizio was very helpful in the eventual securing of the suspect and even held Bane by the leash to prevent him from stepping into traffic.”
