CHESHIRE — The high school's drive-through graduation at Farmington Polo Club, scheduled for Thursday evening, has been cancelled.
In a letter sent to Cheshire High School families on Wednesday, CHS principal Mary Gadd announced the event’s cancellation, as well as a new date, Sunday, Aug. 9, and a new venue: the high school itself.
Families will begin arriving to Bartlem Park, across from the high school, at 4:45 p.m., according to a schedule for the event. The arrival times, 30 minutes apart, will be staggered alphabetically based on students' last names.
Officials are allowing one vehicle per graduate. After arriving at Barlem Park, graduates will drive over to Cheshire High School for the event. During the ceremony, students will exit their vehicles, retrieve their diploma and have a picture taken, Gadd explained. Speeches will be recorded and sent to families, who will also receive photos of the graduation.
“It hardly seems possible that in the midst of a pandemic, we had to postpone our ceremony due to severe weather, and now are faced with the fallout from Tropical Storm Isaias,” Gadd wrote. “This has been a very difficult experience for our seniors, and I could not be more proud of their maturity and positivity in the face of so many complications.”
