The Cheshire High School Class of 2020 has been waiting since June to officially celebrate graduation together.

Unfortunately for the students, their wait will last a little longer.

Cheshire School District officials announced Sunday morning that graduation ceremonies scheduled to be held Sunday will be postponed. The new date is set for Thursday, Aug. 6. Superintendent of Schools Jeff Solan sent an email to all parents explaining the decision.

“After consultation with the Farmington Polo Club and consideration of the severe weather forecast for this afternoon,” Solan wrote, “we have rescheduled...”

Forecasters are expecting thunderstorms and gusty winds to hit Connecticut sometime in the late afternoon.

Originally the rain date for the ceremony was set for Tuesday, Aug. 4. However, Solan, in his email, quipped that, “in keeping with 2020,” Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to impact Connecticut’s weather Tuesday into Wednesday.

“While we would obviously have preferred to hold our event today,” Solan continued, “we need to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for our community.”

The ceremony, now to be held Thursday at the Farmington Polo Club, 152 Town Farm Rd., Farmington, will begin at 5 p.m.
