Cheshire police charge four after reported thefts from cars


CHESHIRE — Four people face charges after reported thefts from cars on Cedar Lane early Sunday morning.

Ashanti Carr, 22, of 711 Winchester St,. New Haven, Dimitria Woods, 19, of 118 Elizabeth St., West Haven, John Pope, 19, of 21 First St., Hamden, and Dajon Brown, 18, of 8 Reed St., New Haven, were all charged Sunday with fourth-degree larceny and credit card theft. 

Police responded to Cedar Lane around 5:30 a.m. for a report of a suspect going through vehicles, according to police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland. Officers were told the suspect was wearing a red sweatshirt and got into a dark colored SUV, which fled heading toward Highland Avenue.

Police saw a vehicle matching the description in the area of Cedar Lane and conducted a traffic stop, Sutherland said. Police investigated and identified Carr, Woods, Pope and Brown. 

All four were taken into custody and each later released on $2,500 bond. They are all scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 9.
