Cheshire dog park, tennis courts to reopen Tuesday

Cheshire dog park, tennis courts to reopen Tuesday

CHESHIRE — As the state begins the first stages of reopening the economy, local officials are taking initial steps to open some parts of the community as well.

The town will open the dog park, skate park, and the tennis courts at the Cheshire Youth Center on Tuesday. The parks have been closed since late March, early April as the town tried to curb the spread of the coronavirus and discourage individuals from gathering in groups.

A statement released by the Town of Cheshire Thursday also stated that pickleball and tennis courts currently under construction will open in mid-June, when work is expected to be completed.

“Those using the above facilities are required to comply with social distancing guidelines and use face coverings when applicable,” the statement reads. “Any additional restrictions for the use of these facilities will be posted onsite and on the Town website.”

One area that will remain closed to the public, however, is Mixville Park, which, according to the statement, is classified as an “interior recreation water area.” No specific timeframe was given as to when Mixville Park would reopen.

In addition, local basketball courts and playgrounds remain closed, as will all town public bathrooms.

“The Town, in collaboration with our local Chesprocott Health Director, will continue to give careful consideration to decisions regarding municipal re-openings. More information will be provided as it becomes available,” the statement reads.
