SOUTHINGTON — A Plantsville restaurant, The Art of Yum, is moving to Hawk’s Landing Country Club over the next few weeks.

It will replace Bunkers, the golf course’s bar and grille.

“We’re excited, can’t wait actually,” said golf director Nick Paradis.“They’ve been here cleaning up and painting and getting their kitchen ready.”

The Art of Yum owner Michone Arrington said he and his partners had been looking for a new location after the floor collapsed at their South Main Street, Plantsville location. They’d considered two other Plantsville locations, the former Zingarella’s and Fireside on Main restaurants, but found a better deal at Hawk’s Landing.

“With our style of food, it’ll work best there,” Arrington said.

Arrington started his own business in 2010 as a personal chef, then moved to a healthy meal preparation service, a food truck, catering and then the Waterbury restaurant with two partners, Donte Jones, and James Thompson. They opened the Southington location in late 2020, focusing on breakfast and lunch dishes.

At Hawk’s Landing, Arrington said there’ll be a greater focus on dinner although all of the favorites from the former location will still be available. Those include the Philly special, a cheese steak sandwich made with prime rib, the California burger burrito and bananas foster.

While in Plantsville, The Art of Yum offered dinner for about a year. Arrington said he struggled to get chefs which meant he and one of his partners took on most of the work.

“We had a hard time, like everyone, finding decent chefs at night,” he said. “Between me and my partner Donte, we were working 100 hours a week. We were getting worn out.”

To prevent a repeat, Arrington said the dinner menu at the golf course will consist of a half-dozen chef’s highlight dishes changed seasonally.

“I have a big focus on local farms. I want to use them as much as possible,” he said. “Whatever they grow, that’s what we’ll put on the menu.”

Arrington hopes to open later this month or early April.

Hawk’s Landing Country Club is located at 201 Pattonwood Drive.
