If it’s lunchtime in Wallingford, where are you stopping on your break? Here are four local eateries you can choose from to get your sandwich fix for the day. All eateries feature sandwiches that are piled high and offer many different choices.
Pig Rig BBQ, 950 Yale Ave.
Looking for a sandwich stacked with meat and smothered in sauce? Then, look no further than the Pig Rig BBQ. Pig Rig has a variety of sandwiches to choose from including the Chicken Carolina sandwich and the Cluckin’ D’licious sandwich featured here. Any time you visit the Pig Rig, you must pair your sandwich with one of their homemade sides. From smoked mac and cheese to cornbread and potato salad, you’ll leave the Pig Rig full and happy.
Rosa’s Deli, 57 N. Colony St.
The best part of a Rosa’s Deli sandwich is the bread you get it on. The rosemary and olive oil ciabatta roll is flaky and adds a hint of flavor you didn’t know you needed. This chicken cutlet sandwich was heated to perfection with the provolone melted beautifully, as revealed when the two halves were pulled apart.
Vinny’s Deli, 567 Center St.
Vinny’s Deli is a Wallingford staple. The famous deli shop has held the crown for “King of Roast Beef” for over 38 years, according to its website. The roast beef is thin, full of flavor and piled high in the deli’s sandwiches. Paired with Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, pickles and provolone cheese, this roast beef sandwich earns its title. Vinny’s Deli also offers many specialty sandwiches and teams up with local organizations to help raise money.
Chuck Wagon, 20 Ives Road
Chuck Wagon offers an array of American comfort food. Whether you’re looking for crispy chicken or grilled, Chuck Wagon sandwiches are full of flavor and leave you wanting more. The food was prepared within 10 minutes and is perfect if you’re looking for something other than a classic deli sandwich. The tangy barbeque sauce on the Nashville Chicken Sandwich and gooey cheese made for a delectable combination. The Creole Grilled Chicken sandwich melts in your mouth. Though Chuck Wagon offers many of its own sauces, the simple addition of mayonnaise on this sandwich was just what it needed.
