A week of toddler meals

It’s back to school time and for many families, that means trying to figure out what to pack for lunch every day! Or if you have a toddler in year-round daycare, it might feel a little bit like Ground Hog’s Day. Below are 7 days worth of lunch ideas for a toddler or preschooler.

A couple of tips to keep in mind: 1) Make a little extra dinner and right before you serve it, just go ahead and put a little portion in the fridge or right in the lunchbox. That way you don’t have to worry about making sure to save enough leftovers. 2) Think outside the box! Just because you wouldn’t see all these items listed together in a meal at a restaurant, doesn’t mean it won’t work for lunch. Your toddler or preschool likely will not be phased by having sides that don’t “go” together. Have a single portion of mashed potatoes left but nothing else? No problem, throw it in along-side of a sandwich.

Day 1

Breakfast leftovers from the weekend! A peanut butter and jelly waffle sandwich, breakfast sausage, yogurt with frozen blueberries (by the time your kiddo opens their lunch box, the blueberries will be defrosted and will have turned the yogurt purple...very exciting!), a clementine, and carrots.

Day 2

Leftover pasta from dinner, watermelon, cucumbers and carrots, vanilla yogurt, and half of a vanilla creme cookie.

Day 3

A peanut butter and jelly sandwich served with cucumbers and tomatoes, cauliflower cheese crackers, a clementine, and a few pieces of a Kind bar.

Day 4

A turkey and cheese sandwich, leftover corn on the cob from dinner, watermelon, a nectarine, and a chocolate coconut cookie.

Day 5

A hummus and cucumber sandwich, strawberries, pretzel crisps, sliced cucumbers and carrots, and diced string cheese.

Day 6

A turkey and cheese roll-up (simply layer turkey and cheese on a small wrap, roll it up, and slice), leftover mashed potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes, watermelon, ½ of a Larabar.

Day 7

Leftover chicken and broccoli with rice, diced string cheese, cherry tomatoes, a peach, and chocolate coconut cookies.
