WALLINGFORD — Gigante’s Too deli reopened under new ownership, a month after former owner Grace Giulietti announced her retirement from the family-run deli.

On Monday, the deli on East Center Street announced on Facebook that it would reopen June 30 with cousin “Tina,” an employee for 30 years, running the business.

“She has always been reliable, hardworking, creative and active in the community. Our passion for food stems from our family, who are immigrants from Abruzzo, Italy,” the post read.

The new owner declined a request for comment Tuesday.

Former owner Grace Gigante Giulietti previously announced, in late May, that she would be retiring and Gigante’s Too would not be reopening after pandemic regulations were lifted, as previously planned.

The original Gigante’s Deli, on Route 68, was closed permanently— a decision Giulietti said in April was expedited by the pandemic, but had been a conversation for awhile.

In a Facebook post announcing the Gigante’s Too retirement news in May, Giulietti expressed gratitude for patrons’ continued support over the years and explained the decision.

“While COVID may have sped up our timeline, retirement was something I had anticipated to do in the near future,” the post said.” I am so grateful for my parents starting the business forty-eight years ago.”

Deli founder Antonio Gigante died in October at age 90. He operated Gigante’s alongside his wife, Maria Gigante, beginning in 1973. Giulietti opened Gigante’s Too, 817 E. Center St., in 2012.

The deli is reopening with certain pandemic-related precautions in place, including requiring customers to wear masks and stay six feet apart.

Curbside pickup is available from the back door, where a sign gives a number to call when you arrive. Delivery is available on Door Dash.

Gigante’s Too is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Sunday.
