Hot buttery-style lobster rolls appear to be the area favorite.

Sam the Clam’s Pub and Grub in Southington serves hot and cold lobster rolls, but there’s an obvious choice among customers.

“Most definitely hot with butter,” manager Sara Fournier said.

The cold version comes with mayonnaise and celery.

Sam the Clam’s has other lobster offerings, including lobster-stuffed mushrooms and baked stuffed shrimp with a lobster stuffing. Fournier said they’re also working on possibly adding a new fried lobster appetizer to the menu.

The lobster bisque is also very popular, Fournier said.

Most restaurants selling lobster get it from Maine, including SpoonShoppe Brooke Deli and Farm Market in Meriden.

Co-owner Russ Bandecchi said his customers also prefer hot lobster rolls with butter.

“(It’s) the only way to do it,” he said.

The alternative to hot and buttery appears to be more popular in parts of Maine, where it is served cold and with mayo, salt and pepper and sometimes celery. Both hot and cold are usually served on a hot dog bun.

SpoonShoppe Brooke Deli and Farm Market hasn’t opened indoor seating yet, but has some tables and picnic tables outside. Curbside pickup is the main way to get your food, by ordering over the phone or online.

Sam the Clam’s Pub is still doing takeout orders, but also has outdoor and indoor seating available.

You can also get lobster rolls, and other lobster-cuisine, at Lobster Trails Food Truck, which travels around the area but parks often in Wallingford; Close Harbour Seafood in Plantsville; Captain Seas Restaurant in Wallingford; Craft Kitchen in Southington; AmericanSoul Kitchen and Bar in Meriden; Vinny’s Deli in Wallingford; and Westbrook Lobster in Wallingford.
