MERIDEN — McDonald’s is celebrating its 50th anniversary of Shamrock Shakes this year with a new Shamrock-themed menu item.
The minty green Shamrock Shake is back at the chain fast food business now, starting Feb. 19. In addition to the shake, McDonald’s is offering a new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry too.
We had Southington reporter Jesse Buchanan try the Shamrock Shake for the first time and see if the new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry is really much different than the regular Oreo McFlurry, which he’s tried before.
“We’ve been serving the iconic, cult-favorite Shamrock Shake for 50 years and it’s become synonymous with McDonald’s ever since,” said McDonald’s Vice President of Menu Innovation, Linda VanGosen, in a company press release.
“We’re excited to serve up a new way to experience the one-of-a-kind Shamrock flavor in our new OREO Shamrock McFlurry. Our chefs worked to get the perfect balance of OREO cookies and mint for this new delicious dessert. We can’t wait for customers to get a taste this spring.”
The Shamrock shake was first created by Hal Rosen, a Connecticut McDonald’s owner and operator, who made the shake for St. Patrick’s Day, according to McDonald's.
Shamrock drinks are available for a limited time.
The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry was Buchanan’s top pick. He said the Oreos mixed well with the mint flavor of the shake, which had a similar consistency anyway.
