Can’t wait until Thanksgiving to get your hands on the classics? Local eateries and delis have got you covered, with sandwiches and wraps loaded with turkey, cranberry sauce, gravy and more.
THE EATERY, Wallingford
The Eatery, 65 S Colony Rd., has been serving up its completely homemade “Mayflower Wrap” for about four years, according to owners Leah and Jon Masella.
The wrap comes with house-roasted turkey breast, maple roasted sweet potatoes, apple-cornbread stuffing, and pear cranberry sauce, all made from scratch.
Jon Masella said the wrap is extremely popular and often outsells every other sandwich ordered throughout the day.
“Every morning feels like Thanksgiving morning” when getting the ingredients together, he said.
Even keeping up with making enough ingredients can be a challenge, with how popular the wraps are, Leah Masella said.
The wrap became available at the beginning of the month and will be around for about a week following the Nov. 28 holiday.
ROSA’S DELI, Wallingford
Rosa’s Deli, 57 N Colony, returns with its “Thanksgiving Day Dinner on a Sub” this year.
The sandwich, which you can also get on a hard roll or a cranberry baguette, comes with cranberry sauce, turkey, stuffing, and gravy.
For a limited time, the hard roll and baguette options will come with a slice of homemade pumpkin pie too.
PAUL’S DELI AND CATERING, Meriden
Paul’s, 154 N. Wall St., has a “Turkey Gobbler” sandwich year-round for Thanksgiving lovers, which has been on the menu for about 35 years.
The sandwich is on the menu Thursday year-round, but the deli takes a break from them for about two weeks after the holiday.
It comes with homemade stuffing made with croutons, apples, celery, and craisins, plus gravy, turkey breast and cranberry sauce.
VINNY’S DELI, Wallingford
Vinny’s Deli starts serving its “Thanksgiving Day on a Roll” mid-October.
The deli, at 567 Center St., makes the sandwich with oven-roasted turkey breast, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce, on the customer’s choice of bread.
The sandwich is available until Christmas, but Jean Iannuzzi, owner Vinny Iannuzzi’s wife, said it’s usually more popular before the turkey holiday.
And when she said popular she means “very, very, very” popular. The deli also does the sandwich for group orders.
LIBERTY STREET MARKET AND DELI, Southington
Right now, the deli, at 159 Liberty St., has an occasional special that stacks turkey, housemade cranberry sauce and housemade stuffing on a ciabatta roll.
The special sandwich isn’t available every day but will be on the menu as a special a few more times before Thanksgiving and a few times after too.
