Caregiving is a tough job. Every day, Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging applauds the individuals who clean houses, give baths, shop for and comfort the millions of elderly and ill people that are friends and loved ones. November, which is National Family Caregivers Month, is a time to give special recognition. The theme for 2020 is “Caregiving Around the Clock.”
More Americans are caring for loved ones now than any other time in history. It is estimated that more than 90 million Americans provide care for adults and children who need their help. It’s become a new fact of life that everyone will eventually be faced with the role of caregiving in some form or another at some point in their life.
It doesn’t matter the reason why someone is a caregiver - those giving care regularly do so at a tremendous personal sacrifice of time, income and energy. Family caregivers come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: putting their loved ones first, even if that means putting their own lives on hold.
To support individuals and families in their caregiving journey, Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging offers caregivers support groups virtually, on the phone and on the Facebook page “Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging Support Group.”
National Family Caregivers Month is a time to recognize and respect family caregivers across the country for all they do, for their loved ones. This month, honor those who give of themselves for the health and well-being of their family members, neighbors, and friends.
