It’s time to step back in time insde the Barnes Museum. Tours of the historic Bradley-Barnes Homestead will resume on June 15. Guided tours will be limited to groups of four or less and will be by appointment only. To schedule a tour, call the Museum at 860-628-5426 or schedule online at http://www.thebarnesmuseum.org/visit-us.html. Tours will be available Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and will run for 45 minutes. For our guest safety, as well as that of our staff, mask must be worn inside the Museum.
The Barnes Museum has had its doors shuttered to the public since March, but has been maintaining a strong virtual presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, providing virtual programming.
What is it Wednesdays, which will continue into June, are a chance for the public to ask questions in real time via facebook, while Museum Staff focuses on an aspect of Southington’s History. Popular episodes have been recreating Sylvia Bradley’s (d. 1906) recipes and visiting Lake Compounce which the Bradley family visited when it was still known as Picnic Park. Songs of the Steinway has been an opportunity to feature the Museum’s 1914 Player Pianola.
The pianola is only one of thousands of items of historic importance that can be seen on a tour.
