PARC hosts 21st Coughlin Walk fundraiser

PARC, Inc. is celebrating its 65th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the 21st Annual Helen & Danny Coughlin Walk at Norton Park. Plainville’s new town manager, Michael Paulhus, will serve as grand marshal.

The walk was named in honor of Plainville residents Helen and Danny Coughlin, mother and son, who were instrumental in the founding of PARC. Although both individuals have passed away, members of the Coughlin family join in the event each.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. followed by the walk. Children can join in the Panda Walk with the PARC mascot, meet Valentine the Clown and make crafts. A chili cookoff will also take place. People can register at the event or through the website www.parcdisabilitiesct.org. The rain date is Saturday, Oct. 8.

PARC advocates for and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. Membership is open to residents of Plainville and contiguous towns.
