Expanding Resource Material Collection for People with Dementia
The Southington Public Library is expanding its collection of resource materials for people with dementia. The current collection of “Cognitive Change” materials includes reference books, readymade reminiscence kits, games, and puzzles specifically designed for people with dementia.
The new materials will include magazines, DVDs of various themes (vintage TV, travel, exercise, and calming scenery), CD’s of older music collections, more reference books, puzzles, and fiction written just for people with dementia. This expansion of materials is exciting and will give people with dementia and their caregivers choices like they have never had before here at the library.
If you have any questions regarding dementia resources please contact Elizabeth Chubet at firstname.lastname@example.org or 860-628-0947 ext. 6513.
Virtual Memory Cafe
The Southington Public Library and LiveWell Dementia Specialists are proud to offer their Memory Cafe to the public, virtually, via Zoom. The Cafe is a part of the library’s participation in the Dementia Friendly Southington initiative, led by LiveWell, and generously supported by the Barnes Memorial Trust at the Main Street Community Foundation. The Library has been participating in the Dementia Friendly initiative through staff training and by offering dementia related resources for people affected by dementia.
Memory Cafes are social events for individuals experiencing cognitive changes from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, as well as for their family members. Each cafe is unique and offers an easy and fun way to socialize with others who have this shared experience.
If you have dementia, join us with your caregiver and meet new people and enjoy some relaxing conversation and laughs.
The Memory Cafe will meet on the second and fourth Monday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Registration is required. A link to the Zoom Memory Café will be sent to you the day before the event.
To register visit southingtonlibrary.org by clicking on the Events Calendar or call the Reference Desk at 860-628-0947 option 5.
