Local art, dance and other classes to try this year

It’s a new year, and there’s no time like the present! All across central Connecticut, there are all types of special skills classes available for learners of all ages who want to dabble in something new or improve the craft they’re already passionate about. Check out these local spots if you’re looking for a taste of something different this year! 

Words on Wood, 144 Center St, Wallingford, CT 06492

Through Words on Wood, you can add some pizzazz to your home with a piece that shows off your skills! After creating a personalized design online or choosing from one of their pre-existing stencils, your class is led by expert woodcrafters who use step-by-step instructions to make your vision become a reality.

At the studio, you can host a wood sign party for you and your squad of you can attend an already existing event that’s posted on their Words on Wood calendar. You are ultimately the creator but the excellent Words on Wood team members will be there to guide you from start to finish!

For the shakers and movers, try your hand (or feet) at taking a dance class! Miss Chantel’s Star Dance Academy hosts a wide range of dance classes for students of all ages. From toddler Tumble Time to Adult Tap, Miss Chantel has something for everyone!

For those who aren't interested in stage lights but still strive to get in a good work-out in the new year, don’t miss her Barre and Beach Body fitness classes—neither of which have a performance aspect.

For lessons that are as tasty as they are fun, visit Foodology! This Plantsville cooking and baking school offers culinary lessons for groups of all ages, team building workshops, private events, and more! Through kitchen craft, Foodology thrives to bring people together and teach skills that can last a lifetime.

During the earlier days of the pandemic, the Foodology added virtual classes as an option; signing up for a Zoom lesson may be the move for you as new cases surge across the state. Whichever option works best for you, make sure you come to your lesson hungry!

Another excellent option for those who are hoping for an at-home tutorial is a virtual-visit to Art Studio of Connecticut. There are options for learners of all ages! Whether in person or through a virtual lesson, the class leaders encourage a BYOB policy, and aim for their classes to be informative, relaxing, and a ton of fun!
