Wallingford blogger gives tips on ways to simplify your life this spring

Moms are always looking for new ways to simplify their lives – whether its cleaning or cooking related, I know that if there is a shortcut or a way to make things easier, I want to know about it. After a bit of trial and error, I’ve put together five easy ways to simplify your life this spring, all of which can be implemented instantly.

1. Make the beds every morning

Not only is making the bed after you get out of it a good habit, but it is a quick way to check one thing off of your to-do list. By making the bed every morning, you're going to feel more confident and motivated to start your day. Even if you plan on climbing right back in, it is easier to drink coffee and type on a made bed than a messy bed.

2. Put all of the kids toys away before going to sleep

By tidying up the children's play areas, you're creating a fresh start for the morning. Try including your kids in the clean up process - they will eventually start to clean up before they go to sleep themselves.

3. Wipe down the kitchen and run the dishwasher overnight

I like to start the day with a clean slate - and since we begin our days in the kitchen, it’s nice to have it clean upon waking up! Every night I rinse out the sink, wipe down the counters, and check the floor for crumbs. I also load the dishwasher and run it overnight, so I just need to unload in the morning and we're ready for the day.

4. Sort dirty clothes as you take them off, so you don't have to when it’s laundry day

We have two different laundry baskets - a white basket for light colored clothes and a gray basket for dark colored clothes. As we take off our dirty clothing, we sort it by color to save time for laundry day. If things get messy, I have two little helpers who love to sort laundry.

5. Run the vacuum cleaner more than once a week

This helps with dust build up in the home AND keeps down the amount of pollen the kids track in. Not only will this help with any seasonal allergy issues, but it also makes your big cleaning days less labor intensive.
