MERIDEN — The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection removed an abandoned boat at Black Pond in Meriden Friday. The boat had been grounded in front of the fishing platform for about a week.
Record-Journal Woods ‘N’ Water Columnist Mike Roberts mentioned in his recent column noticing the boat on Saturday.
“It was a boat — and a very big one at that — grounded in front of the handicapped fishing spot and tilted on its side as if it had taken on some water. Now, when I say “big,” I mean really huge! It had an inboard engine and was well over 20 feet in length,” Roberts wrote in his column
On Monday, the boat was seen with an orange sticker from the DEEP dated April 8 noting the abandoned vessel was being investigated by the State Environmental Conservation Police.
By Friday afternoon, the boat was gone. People fishing said DEEP stopped by earlier in the morning to remove the boat.
