Campership Fund kicks off 48th year

The Summer Campership Fund for Meriden-Wallingford kicked off the 2023 campaign this week. The fund is in its 48th year offering campership awards of $140 to boys and girls in Meriden and Wallingford to attend local camps. Participating camps are Boys & Girls Club of Meriden, Meriden YMCA, Girls Inc., Wallingford YMCA, the Salvation Army, the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club, Camp Claire and SCOW’s STEM and Music Camps.

This year’s goal is $65,000 in order to fund approximately 500 camperships. One hundred percent of the funds raised are used directly to fund camperships.

Applications for campership awards have been distributed in Meriden and Wallingford schools. Applications and proof of family income must be brought to the camp office of choice. Families applying must submit a DSS budget sheet or a completed 2022 income tax form. For more information, contact Meriden Health and Human Services at www.meridenhealth.com. Camperships will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

The program is sponsored by the Record-Journal, the United Way and Ion Bank and administered by Meriden Health and Human Services. The Record-Journal publishes all contributions unless asked to be anonymous. Tax deductible contributions should be sent to: Summer Campership Fund, c/o Doreen Marinaro, Ion Bank, 500 West Main St., Meriden, CT  06451.
