Eversource conducts power grid upgrade by helicopter in Meriden, Wallingford

MERIDEN — Residents of central Connecticut can expect to see a pair of helicopters hovering overhead for the next several weeks as Eversource conducts an electrical equipment upgrade.

Eversource began construction work before Thanksgiving and will continue working in the area until Saturday, Dec. 17, weather permitting.

Mitch Gross, a spokesman for Eversource, said helicopter crews will transport workers operating on “specialized contracts” to various power line sites and will work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to weatherize and expedite communication between electrical transmission towers and lines.

Gross said the construction process will entail helicopters flying alongside electrical transmission towers and installing new optical ground wires that will provide service to both Meriden and Wallingford.

“There’s always upgrade work taking place on our system,” Gross said. “This is another example of that work.”
