Man arrested in connection with shots fired into Meriden home

MERIDEN — A man faces charges after a report of shots fired into an occupied home on Park Avenue in December.

Juan Gomez, 22, was arrested and charged second-degree conspiracy to commit assault, conspiracy to commit illegal discharge of a firearm, conspiracy to commit reckless endangerment, first-degree threatening, evading responsibility and misuse of plates. He is being held on $375,400 bond.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2022, police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 88 Park Ave. and a separate call alerting them of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Broad Street and Westfield Road. Witnesses said occupants of an involved vehicle were seen exiting the car and fleeing the scene, according to police. The two incidents were determined to be connected, police said.

Officers said one bullet was fired into the Park Avenue home, which they believe struck the front doors of the building before traveling through the living room and becoming lodged into the wall of a bedroom. Three residents were in the home at the time, but none were harmed, according to police.

“It is believed that Gomez had an issue with one of the occupant’s boyfriends and chose to handle that issue by firing rounds into the girlfriend’s home,” police said in a statement.

Police developed him as a suspect after investigating, conducting interviews and serving search warrants, police said. He currently has multiple open cases, including a previous weapon charge. He is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on June 12.
