MERIDEN — Police are investigating after a man was shot on Sherman Avenue Thursday afternoon.

His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

A 25-year-old man walking in the area of Sherman Avenue and Warren Street was shot in the leg after talking with a person in a car that pulled up beside him, police said. Two gunshots were reported.

The man suffered a leg injury and was transported to the hospital. It is unknown how many people were inside the vehicle, which drove off before officers arrived, police said. No description of the vehicle was available.

A section of Sherman Avenue, between Warren and Prescott streets, was closed while police investigated.

Police said it is unknown whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
