The Summer Campership Fund for Meriden-Wallingford finished the fourth week at $23,057 with new donations totaling $8,672 including gifts from Gloria Biestek and K Sundberg, in memory of Robert Biestek, $140; United Methodist Women, $50; David and Elizabeth Leigh, $300; Missions Board at Center Congregational Church, Meriden, $342; Fosdick Fulfillment Corporation, $5,000; Jack and Cathie Hubball, $140; Frederick Biestek and Xuemei Fu, in memory of Robert Biestek, $100; Gladys and Marvin Beloff, $140; Raymond and Alexandra Guest, $140; Dorothy and Richard Sturmer, $40; Jack and Barbara Brooks, $140; and Wadsworth Family Foundation, $2,000. The fund is in its 45th year offering campership awards of $140 to boys and girls in Meriden and Wallingford to attend local camps. Participating camps are Boys & Girls Club of Meriden, Meriden YMCA, Girls Inc., Wallingford YMCA, the Salvation Army, Children First and the Ulbrich Boys and Girls Club.
This year’s goal is $65,000 in order to fund 504 camperships. One hundred percent of the funds raised are used directly to fund camperships. Last year, $61,310 was raised to award 500 camperships to attend two week sessions at the local camps.
Applications for campership awards have been distributed in Meriden and Wallingford schools. Applications and proof of family income must be brought to the camp office of choice. Families applying must submit a DSS budget sheet or a completed 2019 income tax form. For more information, contact Meriden Health and Human Services at www.meridenhealth.com .
