MERIDEN — Police formally charged a Horton Avenue man Friday with murder in the June 2020 killing of Giovanni Rodriguez.

Trevor Outlaw, 33, of 98 Horton Ave., was taken into custody Monday on five counts of failure to appear in court on weapons, drug and assault charges.

He had also been wanted for questioning in the killing of Rodriguez.

On Friday, police charged Outlaw with murder. Bond was set at $2 million.

Rodriguez, 24, died of a gunshot wound to the chest outside the Comfort Inn, 900 East Main St. in the early morning of June 21, 2020.

Police in September issued a statement asking for the public's help tracking down Outlaw for questioning.

He is due in court April 14 on the weapons, drug and assault charges. His court date for the murder charge was not immediately available.
