24-year-old man shot outside Meriden hotel dies

MERIDEN — A city man was fatally shot outside the Comfort Inn & Suites on East Main Street early Sunday.

Police received a report from a female witness that a man had been shot just before 2 a.m. and found the victim lying in the hotel’s entrance, Lt. John Mennone said in a statement. The statement identified the victim as Meriden resident Giovanni Rodriguez, 24.

Rodriguez, who was shot once in the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As a result of our preliminary investigation, officers were able to secure witnesses and video footage of the area,” Mennone said. “Investigators are asking for the community to call with any information to assist in the successful conclusion to this investigation.”
