MERIDEN — Police said two people were hospitalized for treatment of what officers determined were gunshot wounds Wednesday night.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hobart and Yale streets around 8 p.m. upon receiving a report of shots fired in the area.
Police said once officers arrived at the scene they were advised by other officers who had been on scene at MidState Medical Center that two gunshot wound victims, who had been transported in private vehicles and not in ambulances, had just arrived at the hospital.
Police said both male victims’ injuries were not life threatening. Both have since been taken to other area hospitals for further treatment.
Police, in a news release issued shortly after 10 p.m., described the incident as active with both the detective and patrol divisions conducting investigations.
Police ask potential witnesses or anyone else with information related to the incident to contact Meriden Police Det. Joe Robison at (203) 630-6267.
The reported shooting is the city's third gunfire-related incident to occur within a 48-hour span.
Early Tuesday morning, police received separate reports of shots fired at 500 S. Broad St., the building that houses the Record-Journal's offices, as well as at 138 Fourth St. No injuries were reported in either incident.
