Man dies, female victim hospitalized in Meriden double shooting

MERIDEN — A 30-year-old man and a female victim were found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle parked near West Main Street and Lewis Avenue Monday. The man later died at a local hospital.

At around 6 p.m, police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area, finding the two victims in a parked vehicle along with a handgun, Meriden police spokesman Lt. Darrin McKay said in a statement.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries. The female victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries for treatment. Police did not release the female victim’s name or age.

Based on their initial investigation, police believe the two victims knew each other and that there is no further danger to the community as a result of this incident, McKay said.

Police sent out a reverse 911 call via the CTAlert system at around 7 p.m. notifying the community about the shooting investigation and that the incident was believed to be isolated.

Officers were also observed in the area of nearby Grove Street Monday evening, closing off the entrance to Grove Court with police tape. At least four officers and one squad car were on scene as members of the public gathered outside of a home at the intersection of Grove Street and Grove Court.

It’s not clear if the two scenes are connected.

Anyone with information on the double shooting is asked to contact Det. Thomas Giannakopoulos at (203) 630-6339.
