MERIDEN — A 59-year-old man faces gun charges after police served a search warrant at a Randolph Avenue apartment on Wednesday.

Gary Coleman, of 27 Randolph Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition and interfering with an officer. Coleman’s bond was set at $300,000.

Members of the Meriden crime suppression unit, with the assistance of the Meriden and Wallingford-Cheshire SWAT teams, served a search warrant at Coleman’s apartment, police said.

A loaded handgun was seized and Coleman was taken into custody.

The ongoing investigation is part of an effort to “rid the city of the recent gun violence,” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

“The members of our Detective Division along with our patrol staff have been diligently working to maintain the safety of our community and as always we ask for the citizens of Meriden to assist with this effort,” the post said. “Any information will gladly be received by our staff and we encourage open lines of communication.”
