Police: Man charged in Meriden double shooting

MERIDEN — A man faces charges after police said he shot two people in a car in April.   

Joshua Betancourt, 18, of 81 Side Hill Road, was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree assault and one count each of unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and weapons in a motor vehicle.

On April 24. police responded to MidState Medical Center for a report of two people with gunshot wounds, Sgt. Michael Boothroyd said in a statement Thursday. Police allege Betancourt was in the car with the two people and shot them. No further information on the incident was available Thursday. 

Betancourt was served with the warrant when he appeared in court Thursday on an unrelated case, Boothroyd said. His bond was set at $600,000.
