MERIDEN — A local man faces charges after police said he assaulted a woman and struck her car with a tire iron during a domestic dispute.
Hiran Lopez, 37, of 624 Broad St., was charged Wednesday with third-degree assault, criminal mischief, breach of peace and possession of marijuana.
Police responded to the home on Broad Street around 9:15 a.m. for a report of a domestic dispute and found Lopez and a woman outside. The woman reported that Lopez punched her twice in the head during an argument and also dented her car with a tire iron, according to a police report.
A witness interviewed by police said they saw Lopez punch the woman twice in the head, the report said.
Lopez was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. A judge set bond at $5,000 and entered a protective order. The case was continued to Aug. 23.
