MERIDEN — A man faces charges after police said they found over 11 pounds of marijuana and a little over $30,000 during a traffic stop.
Edward Mercado, 29, of 191 Belden St., New Britain, was charged Thursday with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of ammunition, interfering with an officer, operating with a suspended registration, and disobeying the signal of an officer.
On Thursday members of the crime suppression unit were checking various areas of the city with the help of the patrol division. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop at the end of Carter Avenue, Lt. John Mennone said in a statement Friday. The driver, identified as Mercado, was taken into custody. Police searched the vehicle and found 11.73 pounds of marijuana, 109 jars of THC extract, 353.8 grams of cocaine and $30,886 in cash, Mennone said.
Mercado’s bond was set at $750,000. His court date was not immediately available.
